Dry Ration Distribution- Sahara Kit Abhiyan

Rationale

Across our urban and semi-urban areas, there exists a deeply neglected population, individuals without family support, those living on the streets, and people battling extreme poverty with no stable source of income. Most public distribution systems fail to reach these groups due to documentation gaps, mobility issues, and social exclusion. This program aims to restore dignity and sustenance to these individuals through monthly dry ration kits that can support basic nutrition and survival.

Causes behind the Issue

• Lack of Identity & Documentation: Many homeless individuals are excluded from government food schemes due to lack of Aadhar cards, ration cards, or permanent addresses.
• Social Isolation: Those without family support or abandoned by society often fall outside both governmental nets.
• Unstable Income: Daily wage workers, elderly people without pensions, or 
  physically disabled individuals often have irregular or no income.
• Urban Neglect: In rapidly urbanizing areas, the focus is often on infrastructure, with little attention to those living beneath flyovers, bus stops, or railway tracks.
• Seasonal Crisis: Rains and heat waves worsen the already precarious living conditions of the homeless, making food security even more urgent.

Donors can play a crucial role in sustaining the Sahara Kit Abhiyan by funding monthly or annual dry ration kits for individuals who are homeless, abandoned, or living without stable income. With just ₹600, one person’s nutritional needs can be supported for an entire month, an annual commitment of ₹6,000 provides year-round food security.

Donors may also choose to sponsor full distribution drives, provide in-kind support, or help with logistical costs. Every contribution directly helps restore dignity and nourishment to those most often left unseen.
